Smallwood is innocent until proven guilty, but the charge of intimidating a murder witness is very serious. If the evidence is substantial, WVU will not wait for a trial.
Local prosecutors generally do not take extradition lightly. It is an expensive process that will probably involve flying two detectives from New Jersey to Morgantown and all three of them back.
Prosecutors usually do not go further than an adjoining state unless a solid indictment is forthcoming. I am not saying Smallwood is guilty, or even likely guilty. My point is, the evidence against him must be pretty strong and compelling.
The Mountaineers will be fine. As a door closes for one it opens for another. Smallwood probably has the God given talent to play at the next level.
We may never know. I cannot imagine AD Oliver Luck or Head Coach Holgorsen letting this one linger. The charge is too serious.
